About The Clock Of Life

Threads of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War are woven throughout of this coming-of-age tale, set in the rural town of Hadlee, Mississippi. It’s the 1980’s, and racism lingers. From the first pages of this novel, the story builds around Jason Lee Rainey’s struggle to keep hold of his father’s legacy. The man is a larger-than-life hero who was killed in Vietnam. He’s the kind of man he doesn’t believe he’ll ever become.

Compelling characters, like his best friend, Samson Johnson, and his crazy Uncle Mooks, stay with the reader and round out this story of history, self discovery, family relationships, and the importance of friendship. In The Clock Of Life, Jason Lee learns the lessons of racism; endures the pain of senseless death; finds the courage to stand up for what he believes is right; and comes to realize he is his father’s son.
